- It is just a decade now since
the first meeting on “Education in Mechatronics” took place
in Bochum, Germany, boosted by the intense activity of the International
Network of Mechatronics Universities, whose goal is (see: www.mechatronics-net.de)
“to exchange experiences in Mechatronics research and education”.
The enthusiasm of the beginning lasted over the time, and it became
a nice habit to meet every year in a different place in Europe. When
we first joined the party, in 2003, we were offered to organize the
2008 edition – that's why, for the first time, the workshop goes
South of the Alps, to Bergamo, Italy. Bergamo, which in “Città
Alta” (high town) keeps so many beautiful traces of its medieval
heritage, can be very attractive to tourists and gourmets; but it is
also highly rated for the industrial capabilities of its region, spanning
from manufacturing to textile and fashion industry, to automotive components
and special products. My department, of Design and Technologies –
to whom our small group of “mechatronics' addicts” belongs
– is very glad to host so many colleagues and friends in the splendid
frame of St.Augustin's convent of our University. These proceedings
include printed and electronic documents – a booklet of some 200
pages, intended as a quick and handy reference, collects all the summaries
accepted for the 2-day meeting; the joined DVD holds the full papers
and all the documents related to the event.
